WebCT is a managed learning system consisting of:

• a course construction toolkit
• a course delivery system
• a course management system

As the system is entirely web-based, you do everything using an ordinary web browser. This means that:

• tutors can design and build courses using a web browser
• all course material is delivered through a browser
• administrators and tutors can assess, monitor and track using a browser

Administrators, designers, tutors and learners can all work remotely over an intranet or via the Internet.

This makes WebCT equally suitable for enhancing existing courses with web-based elements, or delivering entirely web-based courses at a distance.
